Sexual Violence and Income Inequality

Sexual violence is prevalent among vulnerable communities and being financially insecure is a major risk factor for sexual violence. The intersectionality that first generation students face makes them a vulnerable community for sexual violence. As an organization that aims to provide support to first-gen students, we have partnered with the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO) at UBC to address these issues and have more support and resources available for students. The GenOne conference will have SVPRO representatives educate attendees about sexual violence in low income communities. Partnering with SVPRO will help us make changes at the systemic level at UBC and allow for more resources desiccated to victims of sexual violence.
