Listen attentively to speakers and facilitators about how to interact on the platform, as they may have different systems of preferences for how they hold virtual space.
- For example, some speakers may love to use the comments section, while others may find it distracting or prefer to instead use the poll function for questions.
- Your best bet is to follow speakers’ cues, as they will present their preferences at the beginning of sessions.
When it comes to communication, it’s important to be just as intentional online as you would be in person.
- Communicating online can inspire us to be more vulnerable that we might be otherwise. While this can lead to really rich discussion, it is also necessary to be mindful of the emotional labour this may demand.
It can feel overwhelming to convene with so many folks online at one time. We encourage making use of personal social media privacy settings if that helps ease this overwhelm!

These things should go without saying, but sometimes we need a reminder!

Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, ableism, audism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, classism, anti-Blackness, fatphobia, or any other form of discrimination or hate speech will not be tolerated.
Harassment in the form of microaggressions, unwanted advances or physical touching, bullying, threats, unwarranted swearing, slurs or phsyical violence will not be tolerated.
Cultural appropriation will not be tolerated - this refers to wearing, practicing or in some way consuming a sacred or significant item or tradition that is not part of your own culture or ancestry, in a way that is harmful, without consent and/or perpetuates oppressive structures.
Inappropriate online conduct will not be tolerated, including harmful comments, behaviour that demands emotional labour without consent, cyberbullying, and any online behaviour that demonstrates the above non-negotiables.

If you experience or witness something that feels wrong, please bring it to the attention of one of the conference organizers who will be available to contact privately via email
Those in violation of the non-negotiables will be immediately removed from the web session, and will not be able to attend further programming prior to receiving permission from GenOne Conference organizers. In some cases, folks will be prohibited from attending all future UBC FGSU programming.
- GenOne Conference organizers recognize gaps in access to knowledge, and aim to facilitate learning opportunities. Decisions about granting permission for future attendance will be based on whether Organizers confidently feel that folks have learned from incidents and pose no harm moving forward. Consent must first be given by those who brought forward the problem.

All sessions will be recorded with the exception of;
- Processing and therapy groups
- Sessions where the speaker(s)/facilitator(s) requests non-recording
Recordings are stored in the cloud
Recordings are made accessible to all who have paid or been given access to GenOne.
Each session will have at least one volunteer or staff member who will be monitoring access and chats.
The GenOne Conference team reserves the right to remove anyone from an online space; please read our community guidelines for more information.

Due to the security risks of sending information over the Internet, the confidentiality of any engagement over the Internet cannot be guaranteed.
The platform we will be using for the GenOne conference is Brella. Brella is in compliance with both BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) as well as Canada’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is considered the gold standard for data protection.
Technology always poses challenges; we recognize that there may be glitches, delays and difficulties along the process and we ask for your patience in this

In accordance with CASL (Canada’s Anti Spam Law), you may unsubscribe at any time (bearing in mind you may miss pertinent information about the conference such as schedule changes, giveaways and bonus content)
